Appalachia High School St. Georges, Newfoundland and Labrador Official Opening December 13, 2002June of 2001 saw the closure of Assumption High School and St. Josephs High School and in September of that year the new Appalachia High School opened its doors to the students of the area. It is a grade 9 to 12 school with a student population of 290 students and serves the communities of St. Georges, Stephenville Crossing, Black Duck Siding, Matis Point, and Flat Bay. The new extensions to Appalachia High include a link that joins the high school with Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School, a modern gymnasium, music room, three new classrooms and a new administration area and guidance area. Two accessibility lifts have been added and the resource centre was upgraded. Appalachia High also has a paved parking lot and landscaping.
